Dr. Amarjit Singh Soodan: A Renowned Botanist, Taxonomist and A Mentor

Abstract

Dr. Amarjit Singh Soodan, one of India’s renowned botanists and a distinguished figure in plant taxonomy and phytolith research, passed away peacefully at his residence in Alpha International City, Daburgi, Amritsar on 21 November 2025. He was 66 years old and is survived by his wife and two children. His departure marks the end of an era for the botanical community of North India, where he inspired generations of students, researchers and colleagues through his scholarship, humility and unwavering commitment to the discipline of botany.
